Today in Metal we lost a great man. Two years after contracting a rare skin disease, SLAYER guitar god, Jeff Hanneman passed from liver failure this morning at 11am. He was just 49 years old. His riffs and his personality and his being will be missed by his family and brothers in arms of SLAYER. May he rock forever in the place where the Gods of Metal dwell.

For comics that I absolutely fall in love with, I will usually have a sarcastic or some kind of comedic opening for these blogs if you haven’t noticed. This one is actually so far out there and different, I have no idea how to even critique it. I honestly don’t. All I do know is that this comic is completely bad-ass. There is nothing I can think of to compare it to. There is very so often a comic that pushes certain limits and boundaries starting off. Punk Rock Jesus is one of those comics. A VERTIGO comic mini-series spanning 6 issues, this will definitely cause a bit of a stir.
To start off, the comic is drawn in black and white. No colors and a very sketchy art style which I think adds to the atmosphere of the comic itself. The story revolves around a reality TV show that is called J-2. A company called Orphis enlisted a world famous Geneticist and Environmentalist named Dr. Sarah Epstein to set up a human cloning lab in international waters. She is to take DNA from the Shroud of Turin to clone Jesus. That is right you saw what I typed. They are cloning Jesus and turning him into a TV show.
This is one of those comics where I really don’t want to give anything out. With it being a mini series the plot will be full in the next few months. I just want to wet your eye buds and turn you onto this brand new spanking VERTIGO comic. Hopefully this will have done it’s job and you will be waiting the new comic day with me for the next issue of Punk Rock Jesus along with SAGA and what ever else your monthlies are.

Enough with that now. I know I’m a few hours early for the 4th of July but I wanted to crank this out early since I love you guys. I went off to my LCS today in search of something patriotic. Something inspiring. Something worth reading. Something that’s not Captain America. Sorry Cap but in my book he is a bit over played.
Carnage USA starts out at a nice quaint and quiet town. Then… Cletus Kassady happens. In Carnage USA it is in Carnage’s master plan to turn everything and everyone into an extension of himself. Women, Children, Babies! All Carnage. It is absolutely amazing. As far as I have gotten the book is awesome. Sadly my LCS didn’t have the last three issues so a Full review is pending. On the other end of that this story so far is absolutely awesome. In the first couple of pages he takes over a town, takes over The Avengers (Carnage Wolverine and Carnage The Thing is flippin insane!) So it is total carnage and action from the get go with no sign of slowing down. Not to mention the unique artstyle that I have honestly fallen in love with. It seems to be some form of digital paint and airbrush but I could be wrong. Either way this comic is an absolute must for any fan of Spiderman or the symbiotes. Also a guest appearance of Toxin my second fave right after Venom! Who could not want this?!
Now that we have that out of the way I would like to take a minute of your time to remind you of the sacrifices of the men and women of this great Nerdcore Nation and what it has given us and protected. Since the Revolution the American Soldier has given his life, limbs, blood, sweat and tears to make sure we are free and protected. Not to mention to fight injustice all over the world. That’s right my dear Nerdcore Nation! KISS is back in the comic groove and it is fucking funky! It might not kick my soul in it’s nuts as a few other comics have BUT it is close. it got my shins and definitely got my attention. KISS starts off our favorite rockstars in the 1920’s in unassuming roles. Its prohibition in Chicago. The land of Speak Easys and Gangsters. An informant is brought in before the boss. The boss tells him to go to hell. Now usually this is just the point where they take him out back and shoot him but no not here. The boss actually rips open a portal to hell. Before he gets tossed in he gets a kiss from a dancer who is definitely more then a stripper. The being empowers our informant with celestial energy just as he gets tossed to hell so he instinctively makes his way out. He finds three others. These four form a unity of power made of pure ROCK, AWESOMENESS, AND BADASSERY. It’s KISS! Do I honestly have to say anymore? Yeah the comic gets a little bit cheesy but it’s based on a fucking awesome rockband. Speaking of When is LORDI going to get their comic? They already had a really cool movie. It was trippy as hell and definitely spooky. It’s called Dark Floors. It’s a good B-movie at the least. Anyhoo, even though this comic gets kinda cheesy, the artstyle is decent and so is the dialog. If you have seen any KISS movies…. you’d understand exactly how great of a feat that is. *AhemKISSmeetsthephantomoftheparkahem* Real movie. By the way if you could not tell by now I love KISS. I am a proud upstanding member of the KISS ARMY. So anyhoo. Without my KISS bias, you need to check it out. Or Gene Simmons will probably have sex with your mom. Less he has already done that then he will probably do it again.
