Life: It gets in the way.

Hello there my Nerdcore Nation! I know it has been soo very long you may have even forgotten about me. I’m floating around and working on getting back in the swing of things. I have been very fortunate as of late after a large bout of bad luck. Well more so then my normal run of the mill bad luck. Since the last time we all had a little sit down so much has happened! The Marvel Cinematic Universe has really taken off, the DCU has been trying (it really has god bless their little hearts), 7 or 8 major comic arcs have happened, Spiderman is back in the hands of Marvel (sort of) and we have the rebirth of Star Wars with The Force Awakens also the DC comic universe Rebirth Which will be wildly uncovered by this specific site. We all know I’d rather read Marvel over DC and Dynamite over Marvel. So from here on instead of playing catch up with about two years of nerdy news that we have already lived through, were going to steam roll forward with whats happening and the future of Nerdisms. Were going back to reviewing, comic rumors, news, special events and everything else I can get a hold of for your pretty little eyes to feast upon. So for tonight my Nerdists, I’m going to say good night and tomorrow we will be reviewing a comic by Kaare Kyle Andrews called Renato Jones: The One%. A riveting tale of a orphaned lad taking revenge on the you guessed it, the rich who destroy the lives of the less fortunate.

Movies! Amazing Spiderman 2!

Hey there nerdcore Nation! Have you heard much about The Amazing Spiderman 2? I have heard almost nothing about plot line or story HOWEVER, I can come to a conclusion. The way the villains are being set up eventually I believe we will be seeing the emergence of The Sinister Six. I’m going to go on record and say that I am not a huge fan of Jamie Foxx as an actor. Hes a great comedian and I will always watch one of his if they are on. Jamie Foxx as Electro is something I am also very apprehensive about. I hope I am proved wrong and I hope that his costume is drastically improved upon throughout the movie because the black hoodie and dark jeans just doesn’t cut it to me as an Electro costume.

This movie has been saved in my opinion from anything that could make it suck for the simple fact that it has Paul Giomatti as The Rhino before the suit. In my opinion Paul Giomatti is one of them most versatile and plain badass actors that I have ever seen on film. Finding out he is in it made me want to see that movie even just that much more. I can’t wait!

Comics! News!

A little blurb I ran across, the bounty hunter Angela of SPAWN fame will be making her way into Marvel Comics this summer starting in Ultron #10. Marvel Chief Creative Officer: Joe Quesada has given up his redesign of Angela for future comics. As a fan of SPAWN, I can’t wait to see what Marvel is going to do with this awesome character.

TV! Doctor Who!

Ok my fellow Nerdcore’s and Whovians. We are all aware what this year means. This is the 50’th Anniversary of Doctor Who. Alot if not all is speculation besides the fact that David Tennant and Matt Smith will be on screen at the same time solving what ever problems and crisis that Moffat can throw at them. All the while being awesome and wearing bow ties. Why? Because bow ties are cool.

A quote from Matt Smith (The Doctor):

“What [Steven Moffat’s] written is just spellbinding. It’s one of the best [episodes] ever, ever, ever. There are parts of it in mad 3D. But what [Moffat’s] done with the idea is really clever, it’s not just throwing things at the screen. [Moffat’s] been wanting to write this script for ever and he’s really done it justice. There are elements to it which are different from normal episodes. When you combine all the elements that are different it’s not just an episode of Doctor Who, it’s something else, something bigger and more exciting.”

Beyond that I have absolutely no information on it what so ever. I am counting down the days to the premier. Rumors of Eccleson and possibly even the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann might show up. Like I said its speculation. Until then we have to gruelingly wait for months for an already much anticipated episode. I’m sure the original creators of the show had no idea it would blow up to be anything like it is today.

So calm down. Everything is going to be fine.

News! Comic news for the week of June 13th!

Ok my dear nerdcore crazies, I have a little bit of info for you to keep you on the up and up of the comic world this week. Not a whole lot of major things happening but the things that are, are pretty friggin sweet.

Lets start off on a BOOM! with Dynamite Entertainment. We have a returning comic character from the Silver Age of comics ladies and gentlemen. From the halls of comic book history, Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt created by the late Pete Morisi, returns to comics this September. The iconic silver age hero will be taken over by Steve Darnell, Alex Ross, Jae Lee, John Cassaday and Ardian Syaf. The famous super hero author will be fighting against not only the bad guys but his admirers too. Be expecting a heavy book too. Not only do you get issue #1 but you get another full story by the original creator that was never published with a forward by Mark Waid. Still for the price of $3.99. That to me is just a reason why Dynamite is quickly climbing the latter on the hierarchy of comic book companies on my list.

Among the Dynamite news I could scrounge up, a fantasy world will be coming to Dynamite in august. The world of dragons and magic  called Pathfinder will be pushed onto shelves sometime this summer. I didn’t see many details about that but since I’m a fantasy nut I will be paying attention to this.

In DC news, Anthony Bordain, the famous chef, author, Travel Channel superstar will be getting his own graphic novel. It is described as gang wars that are lead by chefs instead of godfathers. It is called Get Jiro and it is co-written by Joel Rose. The art is by Langdon Foss and looks quite unique for a DC title. The graphic novel is slated to hit stores later this month on the 27. So keep an eye out for that.

In bigger DC news, September has been announced as Month 0. In this special month that was timed with the anniversary of The New 52, you will see origin stand alone comics that fill in the blanks of origin stories or you will see full origin stories all together. Also in Month 0 you will be seeing the introduction of a couple of on going comic lines. Most notable will be Superman with Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort. Also ( personal favorite) The Phantom Stranger will be making a comeback in the DC line up. They will also be introducing Talon, Sword of Sorcery and Team 7. All which just from their covers look interesting enough for me to check out when they hit shelves.

Onto Marvel news. This week we will be taking a look at what happens when Spider-men meet. The new Spiderman will be meeting our old Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman: Peter Parker in what I believe is an ongoing series. Issue #1 will let us know that Peter is dead and that this Parker is from another Dimension. Now honestly who couldn’t believe that. I mean how many Peter Parkers have we seen over the years? Trillions! Not really but I’m more then positive that this book will be worth a read and trust me when I say this I am not a fan of the new spiderman. Just isn’t Spiderman to me. But hey this is just my opinion.

Also this week Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengance will be riding out onto store shelves Blazing with a fierceness of a guy in a leather jacket with a flaming skull who has more then just a hot head. Ok I’ll stop the noise with that. But seriously Marvel has done something that they didn’t realize they did. They set up a Midnight Sons movie. Just a few more characters and viola you have a anti-hero avengers team starting with Blade and GhostRider. I know I’m not the only person who remembers The Midnight Sons. All we need is a Night Stalkers movie featuring Morbius with a Vengence and Ghostrider Daniel Ketch movie and boom sets up for some awesome anti-demon action with more guys with flaming skulls then you can shake holy water at.

In movie news N.A.S.A. has once again teamed up with Marvel to bring awesomeness to the world. This time it will be out of this world! With help from N.A.S.A., Marvel will be screening The Avengers for the astronaughts enjoyment. A group of Amazing individuals will be watching an amazing movie an incredible distance from home.

In IDW news the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation will be coming back in full force to repell the Borg thread that has already assimilated the galaxy. So be sure to follow the fight of the Enterprise and watch them show the Borg that Resistance is NOT Futile. The series will be beaming up onto shelves this September.

Also in further news Nickelodeonand IDW are teaming up to create a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles iOS exclusive app that will have the entirety of the TNMT comic line with updates each month for the on-going series.

The novel: A Fine and Private Place will be getting a comic book treatment. An Ex Pharmicist has been living in a cemetery for the past 19 years. He is being taken care of by a talking Raven and shares conversations with two unique spirits and an old widow named Ms Klapper. It will follow the story line of the book and include much of the subtle humor and cynicism that abounds the book. While were on novels coming to books I would love to see someone take a look at my favorite horror author’s books. I would love to see Edward Lee’s City Infernal or The Golem put into comics or graphic novels. Go on and find them and take a read. they are amazing books.

In other horror and IDW news, Yoe Books and IDW will be lifting the ban from the comic series Zombies! During the 50’s this comic line was seen as as such a terrifying and depraved comic that it was banned nation wide from being sold. Now in all of its gruesome and despicable glory in hard bound and full color book of all the issues totaling to 148 pages of pure horror. At $21.99 this is a must have for anyone into zombies, collecting old comics or into the horror genre. I know I’ll be grabbing a copy as soon as I get a bit of change up.

Well that is all I have for you this week nerdcore crazies. I’ll have more news for you next week and be on the look out later today for a review or two of comics.

Comic News!

Ok so this might be a new segment among the regular bits and pieces of blogs i write here and there. I want to start up a weekly news segment for new comic day which we all know of course is today. It seems the comic world goes from wednesday to wednesday. So therefore we shall follow said logic. Anyhoo on with the news!

DC: There is a bit of news going on with DC comics. There is a fighting game in the works that will pit DC heros against DC Villains against DC Gods. it’s called Injustice: Gods Among Us. From what I can see of it, It looks pretty neat. Kinda Mortal Kombaty. With a release date of 2013 I would assume DC and NetherRealm Studios should be able to work the kinks out.

Also you need to watch out for the Before The Watchmen Mini series. It will go through all of the watchmen and see original exploits and events leading up to the movie. Look for it at your local Comic Shop.

In final DC news there are rumors that by 2014 we might be seeing a Justice League movie. With the Avengers movie breaking records I would assume that DC lit a fire under their writers tales and got them working again. I know I’m hard on DC but I do it because I know they can do better. They just need a bit of prodding. With rumors of the screen play being written and a possible release date lets just hope that they find the time to put into some singular hero movies besides batman to set up for the Justice League. Marvel did an excellent job at intertwining the movies together to make the Avengers movie make sense. For some reason the idea of Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, The Green Lantern and The Martian Man Hunter sitting around a giant table at the beginning of the movie just doesn’t sit well with me. And if they had any sense they would at least pay homage to the old cartoons and have someone say Meanwhile at the hall of justice.

In marvel News: Captain America was at the opening of National Association of Drug Courts Professionals annual training conference. Kick starting the conference which is which addressed the topics of addictions, mental health and the criminal justice system. To find more information on this you can go here and read the article: http://marvel.com/news/story/18845/captain_america_appears_for_siemens In Upcoming events at the American Association of Clinical Chemistry there will be a visit by Ironman.

Also in Marvel news the fight between The Avengers and The X-men is going into the fifth round of fights and is overshadowed by the burning light of The Pheonix.

In final major news this week, Howard The Duck will be venturing into his 25th anniversary and the fact that no one remembers him as the first Marvel hero to hit the big screen has him angry. Alas I remember you Howard..I remember.

IDW has some interesting news this week. The much anticipated crossover for Doctor Who and Star Trek has sold out of #1’s that even I couldn’t have gotten a copy. Hopefully that will change soon. Tarzan of The Apes will be making its appearance this september and for all of my gothy and dark nerds like myself out there we all loved The Crow right? Well there will be a new series with IDW for a new Crow comic book coming out this summer. So look for that.

And in this week in comics Dynamite has begun the Prophecy cross over for Vampirella, Dracula and Red Sonja. Who knows what other heros might make it into the series. Sherlock Holmes and Watson are the first you see so I am more then sure we will be seeing them again. Bionic woman also makes her appearance into Dynamite’s arsenal of femme fatales.

In upcoming review news be sure to look for Prophecy, Extermination, Avengers Assemble, Haunt and quite a bit more.

Well nerdcorecrazies that wraps up this edition of Comic News! for this week. Now I know I Know I didn’t Cover Image or Boom comics But theres also so many comic publishers out there. So heres my proposal to you my loyal readers, If you want me to cover some publishers each week I will. Leave me a comment at the bottom of this little blog and let me know what you my lovelies want to see and I will oblige. Remember I’m doing this for me but mostly I do it for you. I can shout at the soapbox all I want but no has to listen but you do and that makes you special.

Comic News! The Green Lantern…Coming out!

Ok so those of you who have been following the recent rumor of a Gay Superhero in the DC universe coming out…well it’s happened. Starting in Earth 2 of the New 52, Green Lantern, Alan Scott will be younger and well.. gay. Honestly this has no obvious affect on me. I’ve never been a big DC reader so I can’t really comment on it too much especially since it isn’t the first openly gay character ever. Though the story line is that Alan Scott is younger in this (which makes his gay son not exist for those of you who know your comic history) And he has taken on that part. But to my knowledge he is a blatantly successful superhero who just happens to be gay. The writers are said that this won’t delve into some deeper story that later on will just blow up. So honestly whats the big deal? One version of Hal Jordan was black if I believe. Its essentially the same thing. Why does it matter? Sure some kind of culture will become more represented but in the end what does it accomplish? We still want to see the super hero kick the villains butt and save the day. It doesn’t matter if they are green, blue, black, sexless or Spawn(Spawn is Spawn and he is made from Wynn and Awesome). We want action. We want drama. We want to see inked out explosions and cool aliens and monsters. Who cares if the person punching the monster in the face is gay. Also on that note good luck to Northstar with his marriage to his boyfriend. I’m married and well..just good luck Northstar.
